Controls that people actually follow.
Amara leads Corwell’s Risk & Compliance work from London, helping regulated and safety-critical businesses build controls that people actually follow. She believes that a safer process is usually a simpler one, and her programs often raise productivity as well as compliance.
Trained as a chemical engineer, Amara began her career in process safety on North Sea installations, then spent six years at the UK financial regulator supervising insurers and banks. Since joining Corwell in 2017 she has led more than 35 risk programs, including Kestrel Energy’s field-service program, which cut recordable safety incidents by 44%.
Amara chairs the firm’s ethics committee and is a mentor in a program for first-generation university students. She sings in a London choir and is working through every novel shortlisted for a major literary prize since 2000.
